Consistory
The consistory is the foremost decision-making body of the church. It consists of four elders whose main responsibility is the spiritual oversight of the congregation and four deacons whose responsibility include stewardship and benevolence. All the other organizations of the church are under the authority of the consistory. The Consistory meets regularly on the 3rd Tuesday of each month.
Task Force
HRC has five Task Forces whose job is to assist the consistory in the day to day administration of the church. Task Forces are composed of consistory members and other members of the congregation. Each Task Force sets their own meeting time and date-they meet regularly once a month.
- MESA-Mission/Evangelism/Social/Action Task Force supports our missionaries, promotes evangelism, organizes work projects, and informs the congregation of social action concerns.
- Congregational Care Task Force is concerned with promoting fellowship and encouraging and comforting those in special need.
- Education Task Force oversees all the educational programs in the church; e.g. Catechism, Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, RCYF, etc.
- Building and Ground Task Force is responsible for maintaining the church, parsonage and church grounds.
- Worship Task Force works with the pastor in planning worship services and is responsible for church decor.
Junior High
Our seventh and eighth grade students attend Power Connection, a weekend gathering held every two out of three years for Reformed youth from the Synod of the Heartland at various locations throughout the Midwest.
Nursery
A nursery is provided every Sunday morning during the worship service. We also have volunteers who help take care of small children during Youth Night, Vacation Bible School and other special occasions.
White Gift Program
The HRC congregation has an opportunity each December to participate in our White Gift program. The White Gift began in the late 50’s when Rev. Ver Steeg suggested that instead of Sunday School teachers and students exchanging gifts, the money be used to purchase gifts for the church. Originally each class purchased a separate gift for the church and placed a description of the gift in a box wrapped with white paper which was opened at a special time, hence the name “White Gift”. Since then the project has been expanded and now several organizations in the church and members at large can contribute white gift monies. Also we now usually select just one or two major projects we hope to purchase.
